Opened in June 2020, the Waterloo Sunset Café occupies one of Waterloo's best known beach front landmarks known locally as "the Old Toilets at the bottom of South Road".
Originally built in 1932, the art deco building served the general public for 60 years as a beach front public convenience until being decommissioned in the early 1990s. For twenty five years the building
was left to fall into a state of disrepair (take a look) until the new owner spotted the building in 2011 and was immediately inspired to bring it back to life. The realisation of this vision took over
three years. Three years of highs and frustrating lows during which the new owner saw her vision slowly emerge from the old building (see how) and blossom into the Waterloo Sunset Café that you see today ....more.
